TU Berlin and BHRC Tehran

The Young Cities project is strongly linked to the Department of Architecture of Technische Universität Berlin, because its director - Prof. Dr. Schäfer - headed the chair for Building Law and Building Policy at the department for many years.The Building and Housing Research Center has a long-standing relationship with TU Berlin, because its former vice-president and current director of the Young Cities activities in Iran - Dr. Tayebeh Parhizkar - studied and received her PhD from TU Berlin.

TU Berlin contributes to the Young Cities project through eight research chairs, most of which belong to the department of Architecture. They include:

  1. Architectural Design and Construction (Department of Architecture), director: Prof. Ute Frank. Young Cities staff: Dipl.- Ing Andrea Böhm

  2. Urban Renewal and Sustainable Development (Department of Urban and Regional Planning). Prof. Elke Pahl-Weber formerly directed the department and is now director of the German Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development. Building and Housing Research Center, Tehran

The BHRC is Iran's leading research institute on all aspects of construction and housing. It works under the umbrella of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, and is directed by Dr. Fatemi Adgha. All Young Cities research activities in Iran are directed by former vice-president of the BHRC, Dr. Tayebeh Parhizkar. 

The BHRC employs architects and engineers, and has contributed to Young Cities research especially in the field of architectural design.
