Dec. 18.-22 2009: German Delegation visits Hashtgerd

Five German Decision-Makers from different Dimensions of the Project visited Hashtgerd shortly before the Christmas Break for a Conference with the Iranian partners in order to set the course of the Young Cities Project for 2010. Beside the Conference the delegation members had the opportunity to get a picture of the progression of the New Quality Building field, which is one of the two Pilot Projects and currently under construction.

Dec. 03, 2009: Jan Grunwald visits New Quality Building field

Jan Grunwald, research associate at the Department Design and Structure at the Technische Universität Berlin, just visited the New Quality Pilot Project, which is currently under construction in Hashtgerd and will approximately be finished in March, 2010. In several dialogues the responsible Iranian engineers overviewed the progression of the construction and discussed questions of the execution with Mr. Grunwald.

6th BMBF Forum for Sustainability - One Step Further 9 - 10 September 2009, Hamburg

Hamburg, 09/09/09. Prof. Dr. Schäfer introduced the Young Cities Research Project to the international audience at the conference „Research for Sustainability – One Step Further“ at the Prototyp Museum Hamburg. The aim of the conference was to strengthen the collaboration of politics, science and industry for the generation of sustainable innovation. 400 international experts discussed among other things the impact of fundamental research on sustainability, the strengthening of international collaboration in this field as well as current innovations for climate and resources.

53rd IFHP World Congress

The 53rd International Federation for Housing and Planning World Congress was held 6–9 September 2009 in Berlin on the theme ‘Urban Technologies for Urban Sustainability: Climate Change and Energy Efficiency’. In the context of the congress Dr. Farshad Nasrollahi, research associate in the field of building technology and design at the Technische Universität Berlin contributed a presentation dealing with energy efficient architecture in Teheran, Iran.

June 2009: Young Cities Status Seminar with the Project Advisory Board in Berlin

The Project Advisory Board was established on occasion of a Project Status Seminar held on June,
11th 2009 in Berlin.

The highly experienced Board members include:

Prof. F. Behrendt (professor, Institute for Energy Engineering and spokesperson of the Innovation Centre for Energy, TU Berlin)

Prof. O. Edenhofer (Representative Director and Chief Economist, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research) ,

Dr. J. Heidborn (Head of Division a/d, Federal Ministry of Education and Research),

Prof. J. Pakzad ( professor, Department of Urban Planning and Design, Shahid Beheshti University Teheran) and

Prof. K. Saidi (Director, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit, Coordination Office Iran).

At the Seminar, the Board and the Project Partners intensively reviewed the current Project status and the conclusions to be drawn for the forthcoming months such as refined communication modes or involvement of German companies. The Board will meet again at the forthcoming Iranian-German Project Workshop.

June 13th 2009: Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften, Berlin

The Young Cities Project presents first results and its activities at the Berlin Long Night of Sciences event on Saturday, June 13th 2009. Presentations include posters, films, models, Project members ready to inform about the Project as well as an opportunity for model construction for energy-efficient urban design targeted at children including photo documentation. The photo documentation will be published on this website!

May 2009: Cooperation agreed with International New Town Institute
