Young Cities is a German-Iranian research and development Project set up for five-years (01.07.2008 until 30.06.2013). The bilateral Project is funded in the program of the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) called „Research on the sustainable development of megacities of tomorrow“. Within this program nine different German research institutions conduct research on energy-efficient urban structures in nine countries with fast growing megacities e.g. China (Shanghai), India (Hyderabad), South Africa (Johannesburg), Morocco (Casablanca).
The German consortium is supported with over 6.2 Mio. € over the next five years, though there will be a mid-evaluation by BMBF after two and a half years deciding on the continuation of funding. The Project is substantially supported by the German Foreign Ministry and the Iranian Embassy in Berlin as well as from the German embassy in Tehran
