In the course of the international symposium on “New Towns as a Concept for the Sustainable Development of Megacity Regions?” held on September the 6th 2006 at the TU Berlin, the “Young Cities”-Project has established a “New Towns Research Cluster”, addressing individuals and institutions involved in both research on and planning and construction of New Towns. By sharing information on ongoing research activities of the Young Cities Project and other projects, on up-to-date events and relevant international publications as well as on current and planned New Town building projects the Research Cluster aims at a scientific exchange between its members and initiators on a personal and a professional level. Information will be exchanged and made accessible to members of the Research Cluster by provision of a quarterly electronic newsletter, which will be distributed by the Project Centre of the Young Cities Project.
By installing the “New Towns Research Cluster”, the Project consortium hopes to create a forum for international academics and practitioners likewise to share their knowledge and expertise on the development of new settlements. The Research Cluster shall foster the scientific debate in the field of architecture, urban design, urban and regional planning and related disciplines regarding this specific planning concept.
