Research Dimensions
The Young Cities research project is organized into three main research dimensions that elaborate spatial, infrastructural and architectural solutions for an energy-efficient urban fabric in the case study region. A fourth "supportive" dimension covers all cross-cutting issues such as project management, capacity development, awareness raising and environmental assessment, that help embed the technical research results in a conducive surrounding environment. Research on the pilot projects is conducted in interdisciplinary, German-Iranian working groups that represent all research dimensions.

These include: urban planning and design, architecture, building services engineering, water engineering, transport planning, landscape planning, meteorology, and sociology.
Each discipline elaborates sustainable energy and resource efficient solutions in its field, which are then discussed and harmonized through systematic and integrative cooperation across all disciplines and scales.
